Some Tips Before We Get Started:
Digital Assets, such as photos, video and graphics, are very important in today's age of online branding.
If you don't currently have digital assets, or need a bit more to 'beef up' your presence, then here are a few websites that are commonly used to handle such a job:
- Shutterstock
- Shutterstock is arguably the largest digital asset broker on the planet. Even though this is a paid service, you'd be surprised at how many wonderful images, vector graphics and even videos, you can purchase for a nominal fee. This is by far my most used platform.
- PixaBay
- PixaBay is a wonderful resource for those seeking royalty free images to use as placeholders or backgrounds. PixaBay currently offers over 1 million free illustrations, images and vectors to use in multiple facets of your digital presence. Believe it or not, you can even use PixaBay for free video footage, although it's a much smaller library than Shutterstock or VideoHive.
- Flat Icon
- Now, if you're looking for icons rather than images, then Flat Icon is another favorite of ours. FlatIcon.com offers a variety of useful icons that you can use throughout your website. Most single color icons can actually be colored to your exact specification! Not only that, but they offer both a free AND paid plan. If you opt for the free plan, then all you'll need to do is credit the offer in a side page on your website (which is quite easy to do), but if you'd rather not have to worry about crediting anybody, then you can opt for their $9.99/month premium plan and take full advantage of multiple icon downloads.
- Unsplash
- Unsplash is a huge database of beautiful digital photographs, taken by some of the most talented amateur photographers in the world. They require no credit or payment for their images, and mostly use Unsplash as a platform to get recognized and followed. Now, this isn't an area to obtain graphics and illustrations, and will be far more restricted in their availability based on specific searches, but you'll be surprised at the vast variety of available images at your disposal. For those trying to save money and have beautiful digital imagery as backdrops and placeholders, Unsplash is definitely a favorite to checkout!
- Video Hive
- Now that we've mentioned graphics, images and illustrations, let's talk about video platforms. No, I'm not talking about Youtube or Vimeo, I'm talking about platforms that will take graphics (logos mostly) and turn them into high quality video bumpers and video clips. Now, these are not free services, but luckily you can often times preview your graphics as a watermarked clip before paying to download the true file.
- Render Forest
- At the risk of sounding redundant, I'll keep this section short and simple. Render Forest specializes in digital video asset creation based on uploaded graphics, but they can also create short video clips specific to your content. Totally worth checking out!
